Admissions

Shawnee Academy accepts male and female children and adolescents, ages 5 through 21, who require intensive psychiatric residential treatment.  Our 24-hour, non-hospital, Joint Commission Accredited, inpatient facility offers a structured therapeutic environment where the goal is to resolve existing issues in order to facilitate a successful return to home and community.  Applicants to Shawnee Academy are evaluated based on present and past behavior, psychological and educational testing when appropriate, and a consultation with parents and professionals.  Referrals are generally recommended from social service and mental health agencies, children and youth service agencies, insurance contractors, and private sources.

Shawnee Academy believes children and adolescents deserve and need to grow up within a family environment.   Therefore, we focus heavily on partnering with families from the day of admission in order to return their child home as soon as clinically possible.  Shawnee Academy also recognizes having a child placed in residential treatment is very difficult for families.  Our family system approach involves supporting and educating parents or guardians through our programs, services, the child’s diagnosis, treatment needs and goals, as well as, assessing and exploring the communications, problems, and dynamics in the family.  We accommodate our families with transportation assistance whenever possible.

Shawnee Academy is a preferred provider for most HMO and managed care insurance agencies.  For more information about admissions to Shawnee Academy, please contact our Admissions Office at:
